"Mobile Movie Theater 2.0" for the Katahdin Region

$2,707.00 raised
GOAL: $2,707.00
100.0% funded

Donate to a "Mobile Movie Theater 2.0" that will be used by local schools and civic organizations to entertain and fundraise in the Katahdin region.  The theater is mobile, so we can screen movies indoors and outdoors, helping to increase the use of some of our fantastic public spaces.  This project is in collaboration with the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce.

Indoor Movies

We have been in conversation with leaders in the Katahdin region to determine where movies can be shown.  Everyone has been very supportive and enthusiastic thus far.

The good news: the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce already has some of the equipment to do this.  The indoor/outdoor sound system is in great shape (speakers, amplifier and associated wires).  We spoke with the Chamber to determine what would be needed to make this a success.  Here is the summary of that conversation:

  • The existing screen is a residential model that is intended to be used primarily for private backyard screenings.  For larger audiences, we need to upgrade the screen to a larger, more wind resistant model.
  • The existing projector is aging and currently has no replacement bulb.  We will need a replacement bulb soon.  After pricing spare bulbs, it is more economical to buy a backup projector unit.
  • Licenses for the films are essential.  This must be 100% legal.  After researching and calling around the country to learn more about this issue, we learned that "site licenses" are available for Stearns, Schenck and Medway Middle School for $356 per year per site.

Therefore this project will raise an initial $1,000 to have available for movie licenses that ensures all titles are shown legally, and this project will purchase two pieces of essential equipment with your donations:
